To Liberal and back: Weekly update 4
This week, in the Olney Runners’ Pancake Challenge, the club has run 1764 miles!
Hopefully you all had a nice stay in Liberal last week - maybe you stayed at the American Inn of Liberal, or the Kansas Motel, both located on the appropriately-named Pancake Boulevard! If you remember, we reached Liberal with an extra 299 miles to play with on our way home, meaning we can travel 2063 miles this week. So, here comes the detour...
We’ve decided to try and run through as many places called Olney as possible on the way home! Turns out there are quite a few in America, and this week we’ve run enough miles to pass through 5 of them - in Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky.
Here’s an interesting fact about each of them:

Olney, Texas: For all the Glen Campbell fans out there, Olney is 45 miles south of Wichita Falls.

Olney, Oklahoma: This Olney is very close to Oklahoma City, which also means it lies very near to Route 66 - as we run past, let’s make sure we say hello to Roger and his band!

Olney, Missouri: As far as we can tell, this Olney only has a population of 6 people! It still has a pub though!

Olney, Illinois: During the American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln apparently held a political rally at this Olney, in 1856.

Olney, Kentucky: The only information we can find about this Olney is that it is either 390 or 397 feet above sea level. Yep, that’s really it.
Our 2063 miles this week means we’ve ended up in Hagerstown, Maryland, just outside of Washington DC. Next week we’ll be running back up to New York to catch our flight home!
Although we’ve done brilliantly in being able to afford to take this little Olney tour, we still need to make sure that we make it home by Good Friday - so, let’s get out there, keep running and stay safe!
