OR 5 peaks challenge

Posted by Rob White on 13 August 2020

OK, so here goes our next challenge for our Olney Runners. It’s our very own Olney 5 peaks challenge! You have until 31st August to complete your chosen peak or peaks. Challenge yourself.

We have 5 hills which have been measured around Olney, and 5 well-known heights to climb. The rest is up to you!

Set your sights on one of our 5 landmarks, and try to reach the summit, by climbing the hills around Olney!

You can use any of the 5 hills to reach the summit of your chosen landmark or a mixture of all 5.

Segments have been created for each hill, but if you don’t use Strava, the details of start and finish points are below.

Log your runs on Strava with “OR 5 peaks challenge” so we can collate the info or email into finance@olneyrunners.org.uk

Spot prizes are on offer for this feat of endurance.

GOOD LUCK!

We know some devices are currently measuring elevation inaccurately, which is why we have measured the elevation ourselves to get better continuity and allow those without devices to take part – you can reset the elevation on your device – google and youtube have good advice!

Hill 1 Spring Lane

Starting from the High Street, Olney, Spring Lane starts at Willow vets. Continue all the way up, through the pathway, keeping Olney Infant Academy on your right, and all the way up to Aspreys.

Hill1

Hill 2 Weston Road

Weston Road starts from the High Street opposite Michael Graham estate agents. Run up Weston Road, keep going over the Asprey’s roundabout, keep going up towards Weston Underwood, the segment finishes just past the horse field where there is a public footpath off to the right, with wrought iron gates

Hill 2

Hill 3 Emberton Hill

Starts at the back of Emberton park – go through the main entrance to the caravan park, out the back, towards the fields there’s a gate to go through to the bridle path and the segment starts the other side of this gate at the bottom of the fields. Run up, three fields until you reach the black container in the third field. This is the end of the segment. This is the shortest hill…how many can you complete?

Hill 3

Hill 4 Filgrave Hill

Following on from the Emberton hill, you can continue upwards to the farm, and when you come through the farm, you will come to the Filgrave Road. The next hill segment starts here. Take the road (bearing left) up the hill and continue all the way until you reach to A509. This hill has the greatest elevation, how many can you manage?

Hill 4

Hill 5 A509 Hill

The final hill finishes at the same point as the Filgrave hill, so you could use the down as a recovery if you wanted to add 4 & 5 together. Hill 5 starts where Emberton High Street meets the A509. Run up the redway on the A509 until you reach the road off to the right towards Filgrave.
