As always with every April, it was a hectic schedule of races with all distances covered from 5 to 100K!
The headline race as always, this time of year is of course the London Marathon, with 10 brave souls braving what turned out to be the hottest on record. Congratulations to you all on what is an amazing achievement, while we have no favourites the performances of Duncan Winner and Hazel Garvey deserves a special mention. As product of the Couch to 5K program they are a credit to the who coaching team whom have taken them from beginners on the original course and to the Wednesday team who then built into the amazing athletes they have become.
Away from London we also had some great marathon performances with Steve Dicks in Rotterdam, Ken Woods in Manchester and Linda Church in Brighton, all running impressive times. It was also a superb month for Jo Marshall coming in first female at the Brekland Trail Marathon, only two weeks after an impressive half marathon at the Chicks & Chaps Chase at Willen. Also making waves at the Chicks & Chaps Chase were Matthew Dicks who took overall first place in the 5K and also Antionette Caird- Daley and Faith Jones who achieved PB's in the 10K (only then to beat these PB's in the BM10 in Brighton a week later!), Ever distance had at least one OR representing, so well done all!
Also worth a mention are David Shakespeare who competed in the annual Run the Claydon’s race and to the great turnout for the first race on the Northants 5k series with 22 OR athletes representing including some great junior performances.
Last of all, we had some incredible endurance performances this month with Dean Sartin running the Kielder Ultra 100K, followed by 26.4 miles at the Salcey Forest Challenge. Joining Dean at Salcey was Helen Margetts who clocked up her first ultra-distance of 29.7 miles and Keith Curwood who clocked up a very tidy 19.8 miles, not bad for a Tuesday morning!
The only race missing from this month’s report is the Harrold Pit Run, as we had so many runners and great results I will put together a specific report in the next few days
